Our Past and Present…
We provide a courteous service
your grandparents can trust and a professional experience your grandchildren expect. Anderson’s Chimney Sweeps,
Inc. understands the vital role customer service plays in highly competitive industries. We are confident that we will
provide a professional chimney service to you. To build your respect and confidence in our company, a list of achievements,
certifications and memberships is available on the “Affiliations” and “Certifications” page.
We have been in business and operated ONLY under the name of Anderson’s Chimney Sweeps, Inc since 1990. Our owner,
Richard Anderson, is a former Fire Chief and has been sweeping chimneys for over 28 years. Our staff is certified through
the CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America). We maintain the highest level of training available. We are active
members of the NCSG (National Chimney Sweeps Guild) and the Pennsylvania Guild of Professional Chimney Sweeps. Richard
currently serves both as President of the PA Guild and as an Ethics Committee board member of the NCSG. His duties include
convention planning and training for members of the Northeast Region.
As certified sweeps we are held to
national standards of the NFPA. NFPA 211 for wood burning, NFPA 54 for gas appliances and NFPA 31 for oil appliances.
All work will be conducted professionally and in compliance with these and any other local government codes that apply.
Our professional opinions will be based on our experience and education.
As a young firefighter, Richard acquired
a vast knowledge of fire science. This passion led him to further study fire science in college. The fire department
had provided a traditional community service of sweeping chimneys that he took part of for many years. Unfortunately,
the lack of funds and support led to the termination of this service. At that point, an unknown opportunity had been
given to him. The beginning of his own chimney sweeping business. His first vehicle and equipment was purchased
and he never looked back. He began working full time in the Harrisburg area in 1990. As time passed, the success
of the company both allowed and required his wife, Tracy, to commit to the family business full time as well. Anderson’s
Chimney Sweep, Inc. continued to grow and expand their service area. In 1998, the purchase of Top Hat Chimney allowed
for additional growth. Advertising began taking them to Lancaster area on a regular basis. The success in this
area added additional needs for office space and a storage facility. Growth continued into the Gettysburg/ Chambersburg
areas. Daily, they now service (10) counties. The complete service area extends from the Maryland State Line (south)
to Pottsville/Reading area (north). From Chambersburg (west) to west Chester County (east). They also have commercial
service contracts covering 5 states. You can see the well designed service vehicles traveling in neighborhoods “everywhere”
in central PA. Employment opportunities include: Sales Department, Service Department and Office Management.
The success of the company has been built on honest and professional service. The commitment to “A Sweep for Life”
has annually increased their customer database. Educating employees and customers has been a priority since day one.
This level of excellence will continue to grow. They will continue to seek ways to better serve their customers.
Future goals do include additional services and will be guided by technology. However, they will remain committed to
chimneys and fireplaces first. The efforts and passion have never been the result of the profits alone. The desire
to promote fire safety and provide a peace of mind for families was the inspiration even before Richard began being paid for
his work. The employees hired, first understand this commitment and quickly begin to share this same foundation.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We encourage you to get multiple estimates. The
state of Pennsylvania has no requirements to work as a chimney professional. The Chimney Safety Institute of America
has published valuable information that we would like for you to consider reading prior to making your chimney professional

A Message from Chimney Safety Institute of America
Don’t take your
family’s safety for granted!
A dirty, damaged, or blocked chimney can lead to a chimney fire
or carbon monoxide poisoning. That’s why the Chimney Safety Institute of America and the National Fire Protection
Association recommends that homeowners get their chimneys checked once a year.
But who should inspect it?
Call
a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep®.
CSIA-Certified Chimney Sweeps have passed a rigorous test that examines their
knowledge of the codes, practices, and standards of the trade. Certified sweeps have learned how to do the job right
– as competent, qualified service professionals.
CSIA certification is an individual credential, awarded
to sweeps only after they’ve passed the test and is valid for three years. To re-certify and to keep up with changing
codes, practices, and technology, sweeps may earn continuing education credits. Or they may take the latest version
of the CSIA-administrated examination.
- You know a sweep is certified if he or she carries a photo
identification badge with the CSIA certification number and expiration date.
Ask plenty of questions about
the sweep’s business practices, too. Is the company affiliated with consumer protection organizations or local
chamber of commerce? What kinds of customer references can a company offer? What kind of experience and training
do the company’s sweeps have, and how long have they worked there? Have there been any complaints against
the company lodged with the local government office of consumer affairs?
What else can you do to ensure
the best service?
- Find out if the company has a valid liability insurance policy to protect you
and your home against accidents. A professional sweep shouldn’t take chances.
- Ask if the company is a
member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild. Members receive monthly information about technical issues, technology,
and current prices.
- Make sure that the sweep’s credential is current. CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps®
carry a badge that features a certification number and expiration date. There’s no such thing as a “CSIA
certified sweeping business.” The CSIA credential is based on individual testing and must be renewed every three
years.
The Certified Chimney Sweep credential is the hallmark of excellence among chimney service professionals.
Related industry leaders – and knowledgeable homeowners – understand the quality and value this credential represents.
Those who have earned the CSIA credential have demonstrated their commitment to the industry, to fire prevention,
and to their customers.
